c

cake

Cake is huge, and on wood, 82x60cm. The wood experiment continues. I think I'm coming to the conclusion that wood is a nighmare to draw on but a dream to paint on. Acrylic actually likes wood. Wood like this is cheap, strong, and easier to store so it's worth my while stepping out of my comfort zone. Cake is a kind of compromise between letting a painting happen by itself, and wanting to do something that felt a bit more classical. I was thinking about the conflicts between respect and desire, which brought the cake in, although this cake brought with it the new possibility that some of us prefer cake to the attention of others. Either way you skin it, I think it captures the conflict between needs that we are more or less comfortable with.
