crime_raw

crime_raw is 80x60 centimeteres on wood, with acrylic. It is for the literary salon, but also a break from my tarot project. The brief was just the word, crime. I wanted to create a conflict between empathy and disgust for the characters. I made some fairly odd decisions about the composition, and also took the risk of allowing a bit of surrealism through, and I'm not sure how well that worked. I may have ended up with two paintings that would be more potent on their own compositionally. I also am not sure whether surrealism can be half done. Am I laughing at perspective or just getting it wrong? Is the hammered keyhole imagery a subtle tribute to the imagery in noire posters of the 1940s or is it just a bit too blatant. Having said all of this, I quite like it. I think that the pathos is in there._

One off or short term Illustrations
