mooncowzither

The mooncow, my third "zither" is most definately a lyre. I think this one vies for sexiest looking among my "zithers". Like all of my early zithers, it uses pegs which have the benefit of being small, but they are a pain as you require a key to tune. Pegs are also fiddly to tone, and don't age well, but the pegs in this are still great for a good few decades at a guess. It's also an OK, but not particularly a strong sound. But it's small, so it travelled well, and plays acceptably. It was my first diatonic instrument, a huge sacrifice, but the new ease of playing I really appreciated.

Zithers (and Lyres)

I like playing and building zithers. I found one years ago and got hooked

I'm fairly experimental with my designs so they're quite odd.

Check out my videos to hear them, although I am no musical master.
