mothersday

mothersday I have this tiny picture up because it showcases biro and watercolour. It has a pretty weird story, as it was done in 2023 to take to the hospital where my mother died. I don't think that she particularly liked it either. It's very small (maybe half of A5), and was done very hastily but I really do like it. Motherhood and it's mythos are pretty weird. It presupposes something more than human. A natural ability to be caring, wise, dependable and loving, along with maybe a implied obligation to be so. That makes the image of the mother both a champion and an opressor of women. I wanted something gentle and real, and simplicity imposed by the tiny size of this works for me.
