senet
Senet 60x50 cm acrylic on canvas Approx A2 2020
Current lockdown status reminds of a path we already have been on a long time when we started, and that I might have helped build.
Videogames, social media, the digital age give us an excuse to stay in. That in turn gives those around us the excuse to keep us in.
As our virtual road grows how will our earthbound world contract? How much physical space and stuff will we need, or be allowed to expect?
Here a young woman happily potters about with her phone from her dormitary style abode, all she needs. A neat, not necessarily unpleasant future. Safe, warm, but maybe not a world we'd knowingly dive into.
As populations grow, it's maybe not a choice we'll have in fairness.
Surviving vs living is a debate I struggle with on every level, so if I seem like I'm preaching, I'm not.
I thought it would further the cause having squares, including the main one which awkwardly sits close to the edge all round, and dead centre, but I'll be hell to frame at aguess.
Senet is Ancient Egyptian for sister.
