Somegreatreward is aacrylic and on wood, 82x60cm. I think I'm getting used to wood now. I saw the girl's hair in the grain if the wood and everything else just followed. I actually like this one, and I've struuggled of late (2020 and all). I should confess that Some great reward is a lyric and an album title from Depeche Mode. I guess that gives clues as to what was going on in my mind as I painted this, although, as ever, the viewer's interpretation is king. She is playing a gousli, I saw a doccumentary some years back where a pagan Russian community was found that at least claimed to have been running continuously throughout the middle ages. They were very proud of their gousli players. As a pagan and a zither nut you can imagine I felt a tad jealous, like maybe I was in the wrong place. I'm sure that alot of russian culture would not appeal to me, but there are certainly huge chunks that frankly I yearn for.
