yadwhigasawakening

yadwhigasawakening is in acrylic on A3 paper. Amidst the panic of coronavirus there is the underlying concern about the state of the world. What have we built for ourselves? Is it sustaibale and is it worth it. Are we happier with what we have built for ourselves? Like many, I struggle with these questions. I am a huge fan of Henri Rousseau in almost every way. To me he embodies the dreamer in the way that later surrealists failed. La Reve, particularly I plan on homaging, but this piece is my polar opposite where she awakens to see the 21st century. The beautiful yadwhiga passively revels in nature in the nineteenth century, here she reels in as the world of her brothers and sisters encroaches.
